In August, temperatures reached over 40C, but the robust, old vines withstood the heat. A well placed rain shower at the end of August ensured an excellent harvest. The grapes ripened throughout September, reaching full maturity in early October. The result was a harvest of ripe, healthy grapes with high sugar content and a good acid balance, perfect for Port.
